I’ll never understand why the Bay Area (with several zip codes among the wealthiest in the USA and the World) doesn’t get a proper car show. All we get is the leftovers from Los Angeles with irritable staff that is on their last legs, even if those legs are very attractive.
Yeah, I get all our rich peeps here buy Teslas (or attend the Monterey Concourse D’Elegance ), but with all the money here, why can’t our show be a better one?
NOT in attendance in SF:
The New Fiata
The New Buick Lacrosse
The FoRS and FiRS
New Lincoln MKZ
Instead, we get old shit like the Bugatti Veyron ‘Transformer edition’ (a really shitty paint job) a Pagani Huayra, A Hellcat. Acura didn’t even bother to get the tired NSX concept. I wanted to check a BMW 2 series coupe, and none where there. A few older classic cars brought some class to the joint - but really, nothing meaningful automotive speaking. Below are a few pics:
Random notes:
Never noticed how small the dashboard on a Tucker car is. It’s tiny and only in the driver’s corner. The passenger side is completely devoid of dashboard and glove box
The Polestar V60 wagon was there. The Volvo concept estate was there in spirit via die-cast model.
The Dino in white is awesome
The BMW i8 was locked - I really wanted to sit there
The Volvo 1800 coupe continues to be the classic car that you could still own. That won’t last long.

The i8 requires some nearly impossible body-bending to get in. But once you’re in, you realize that body-bending was worth it. Materials are really nice and the cabin is simple.

I was there late Friday night, and it was disappointed. The only thing worth it was the V60 Polestar. They didn’t even have the cool PR people at the stands anymore. I recall last year my friends got in a very interesting conversation with the N____n rep about hot boxing, how many people can fit in a maxima’s trunk, and vice versa with the Sentra. Now they have boring drab people that only has the Prius guy as they only excited person to do their job...

Seems very similar to the Tampa auto show. At least we had the new Focus RS. But no hellcat. And no supercars.

Yeah. I’m in the union that builds and installs shows, I’ve done a few in LA and it is a much bigger deal. Much more expensive too. I think the Hyundai booth we do in LA cost 6 million. I think SF is a very different market, merc buyers will keep buying mercs etc ..

Hmmm, I missed shooting a few of those. But trust me, nothing to call home about.
